Third Konya Living Lab Workshop: From Co-Designed Scenarios to Model-Based Insights

The third Konya Living Lab workshop marked a key milestone in the project by sharing and collectively exploring the results generated throughout the research process. Building on the foundations laid in the previous workshops, this final session focused on translating stakeholder-defined scenarios into integrated modelling insights and supporting informed reflection on future pathways for the Konya Closed Basin.

During the workshop, the project team presented the results of the household environmental valuation survey, providing insights into how local communities perceive and value water and ecosystem services. Stakeholders were also introduced to the surface water allocation model (WEAP), which was developed and applied using the scenarios co-designed by stakeholders during earlier Living Lab activities.

A central element of the workshop was an interactive modelling session based on system dynamics principles, where socio-economic model results were explored collaboratively. Participants had the opportunity to interact with the model in real time, test alternative assumptions, simulate different decision pathways, and observe how changes in behaviour, policy choices, or water management strategies could influence system outcomes.

While the first workshop focused on jointly identifying key challenges and governance issues, and the second workshop developed shared visions for the basin towards 2050, the final workshop brought these processes together by presenting integrated model results for the stakeholder-defined scenarios. The session supported shared learning, reflection, and dialogue on robust and feasible pathways for sustainable water management in the Konya Closed Basin.
