In this study, we explore the value of incorporating different secondary data with cokriging to assess the spatial variability of groundwater levels for the entire Iberian Peninsula, a region characterized by pronounced hydroclimatic variability and rising water demand. The analysis uses more than 60 years of groundwater level measurements from 3822 observation wells across the region, combined with readily available secondary data, including a digital elevation model, precipitation data, and hydrogeological information.

In many holiday destinations in Southern Europe, water becomes scarce when visitor numbers peak. Tourism is often cited as the main cause. What role does it actually play in water scarcity in Southern Europe, and why cannot the problem be solved through more conscious travel alone?

Questo il messaggio lanciato dalla summer school “Participatory Processes and Environmental Conflict Mediation in Social-Ecological Systems”, i cui ricercatori e dottorandi stanno scoprendo le realtà produttive dell’Oristanese, tra conflitti ambientali e possibilità di mediazione.

Ricercatori ed esperti già al lavoro a Oristano per la summer school “Participatory Processes and Environmental Conflict Mediation in Social-Ecological Systems”, organizzata dal Nucleo Ricerca Desertificazione (NRD) dell’Università di Sassari nell’ambito del progetto europeo OurMED.

Dal 23 al 25 settembre, Oristano ospiterà la Summer School su "Processi Partecipativi e Mediazione di Conflitti Ambientali nei Sistemi Socio-Ecologici".

L'evento, organizzato dal Nucleo di Ricerca sulla Desertificazione dell'Università di Sassari, riunirà ricercatori e professionisti per discutere la gestione sostenibile delle risorse naturali.

From today until September 25, 2025, Oristano will host the Summer School on “Participatory processes and mediation of environmental conflicts in socio-ecological systems,” organized by the Desertification Research Unit of the University of Sassari as part of the European project OurMED.
